It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Frederick. She died peacefully in the hospital, after a one week stay, with her granddaughter by her side. She was born in West Pearson where she grew up, later moving to Port Arthur. Upon marrying Donald Frederick in 1951, she resided in Stanley Park the remainder of her life. She worked at various jobs, retiring from the Lakehead Board of Education. Her summers were spent camping in Grand Marais (30+ years) and travelling to Duluth and Minneapolis. She also travelled to the west coast many times to visit her Auntie in Astoria, Oregon.

She cared deeply for all animals, taking in many strays so they would have a home. When she passed, she had three cats who are missing her terribly, as well as up to five feral cats who have heated houses and are fed daily.

Left behind and missing her are her grand daughter, who lived with her, Amanda; daughter Donna (Doug); son Tom and wife in Nova Scotia; grandchildren Randi (Joe) and Donald; great grandchildren, Cole, Isla and Isaac. Also, her three cats. She is also leaving behind, two brothers Wayne and Bill and their families and numerous other relatives.

Predeceased by her husband of 49.5 years in 2001, Donald Frederick; her parents, Hilja and Jack Lankinen and her youngest brother Raymond.

Many thanks go out to Dr. Mozzon, the paramedics and emergency staff; all the staff on 2B including the doctors, nurses and support staff who went above and beyond for Helen. She had exceptional care from all! Also, thanks to Marilyn, Janet, Lisa, Tony, Donald and Joceline for their help while she was at home.

As per Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service or funeral. Due to her love of animals, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Caring Hearts Cat Rescue and Sanctuary, Kitty Care, or the Thunder Bay Humane Society. These would greatly be appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Mom...your passing has left a huge void in our lives, we miss you, we love you and you will be in our hearts forever. You are now reunited with Dad and all your fur babies and for that we are happy. God's Speed Mom!
