Iolanda DiFelice (Paglia), age 80 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Born on April 1, 1943 in Campobasso, Italy, she came to live in Fort William as a young teen in search of better opportunities. As a skilled seamstress she was involved in the operation of The Final Art in Draperies in the 1970’s and 80’s and was committed to manufacturing custom made drapes for homes and offices for many years in Thunder Bay.

Iolanda lived her life with determination, a strong will, and independence. She enjoyed listening to Italian music, playing cards, bingo and watching movies featuring John Wayne. We will greatly miss her delicious Sunday suppers of homemade pizza, pasta, lasagna and meatballs. She would be proud to know that her granddaughters will carry on these traditions. But most of all, we will miss the sound of her infectious laugh and her warm, affectionate hugs.

Iolanda was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Antonio and Ennio, sisters Rosina and Enrichetta, brother-in-law Giuseppe, nieces Claudia, Maria, Laura and nephew Tony.

She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her children Angelo (Ann), Antonio (Irene), Lorianna (Steve), her grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Natasha, Tyanna, Connor, Tash and Caroline, and her great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters Maria, Ida and Antonietta, sister-in-law Cristina and many nieces, nephews and their families.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of the caring and compassionate staff on 1 North at Hogarth, where she was affectionately known as “Nonna'' by everyone. Your exceptional support, compassion and guidance over the past 6 years is greatly appreciated beyond words.

As per Iolanda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date for interment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Iolanda’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.

“per sempre nei nostri cuori”
