On January the 3rd I lost my EVERYTHING and family and friends are now without one of the kindest loving humans on earth.
Jay left us at St Josephs’ Hospice, at the age of 70, after a 8 plus years of a valiant struggle with a spinal injury he experienced from a fall on April 1, 2016.
I, his wife Bonnie Moore have been by his side ever since October 5th, 1989. Jay was a lover – he loved his family, friends and colleagues. Never did he ever complain and he was our rock.
He was born in Gainesville, Florida where his Dad, Bernie Eingold was getting his PHD in Psychology at University of Florida. His parents Dorothy and Bernie then moved to Miami where they settled into jobs and raising a family. Jays words “I had a fabulous childhood growing up in South Florida”
He joined his brother and best friend Alan at UF and got a degree in Economics. Eventually he got his Masters of Science in Environmental and Urban Systems from Nova University. With this he was offered a job in Tampa at a consulting firm CH2MHill.
As an environmental consultant he came over to Cocoa/Cocoa Beach to work on a landfill siting project for a charity that his future wife Bonnie worked at. They had their first date October 5th, 1989 got engaged October 5th 1990 and on October 5th 1991 we got married. We honeymooned in Thunder Bay!
They had 13 great and fun years in Tampa where Jay eventually went to work at Florida Power as an Environmental Auditor. He loved it! Tampa was a super place with Lightning Hockey, beautiful rivers, wetlands and beaches to explore and he was close to family (just last year he told me he hated the water – we had a boat in Tampa and canoe and spent countless hours on the water). He said he did this because I loved the water.
In 2003 Fred Gilbert offered me the opportunity to come home and be the Director of Fundraising for Lakehead University’s ATAC building campaign and more. Jay was totally on board because he always wanted to move north (well maybe North Carolina) but he loved our family and the area. We made the big trek and settled at Mink Mountain.
He worked for Wardrope Engineering and then Eco Superior. He was in his element working at Eco with these like minded environmentalists who were smart and committed. Unfortunately this is where he fell and his career was cut short. He always said “If I hadn’t fallen I would still be there working with Ellen, Ashley and Erin”.
He didn’t give up!! Even though his injury was hard he was determined to walk out of St. Joes. After 8 months of therapy and the support of the amazing staff on 3 North (especially Sherri) he did just that. His Eco Superior Team were all there to watch this amazing feat.
He was a fighter to the end. He brought us immense joy. He will always be in our hearts.
Left to miss him and his unconditional love is his wife Bonnie Moore, his cat Mika; brother Alan Eingold (Robert Hughes) Fort Lauderdale; Alan’s family Eric Eingold (Rev Emily Brewer and Bernard); Amy Eingold all of New York City; Bonnie’s family in Thunder Bay sister-in-law Blanche Swalwell (Kenny and Cassandra Tolmie ); brother-in-law Lester Moore (Marshall, Sara, Ellie and Maverick) Courtney Hosanna (Taylor and Hank ) Jay is Hanks Zayda, Shay (Justin McConnell) Karin Nietschei, Rachel (Jonas Engen, Nora and baby Henry born Feb 3 in Edmonton).
We would like to thank all the Health Care professionals who helped Jay on this journey. (if I forgot any of you my sincere apologies) You and your team all held a special place in his heart – Dr. Elsherif, Dr. Calonego, Dr. Azad, Dr. Raman, Dr Acedillo, the staff in Ambulatory Care, Dr Bedard and staff of 2 A and of course Dr. Migay and his angels at St. Joes’ Hospice. Also, WSIB, Nick, Karen, Angie, Alex and Lauri at Partners in Rehab; Blair at Sullivan.
Our sincere gratitude to Jordie and George at Roaches and Gerry at Superior Home Health and Mike and Chris at Motion. Special gratitude to Blanche Swalwell, Wendy Bell, Elaine Graydon, Courtney Hosanna, Jan Purtell, Cathy Frederickson, Elizabeth Thomson and Jen Aarnamo for being there through this journey with us with love, caring and hugs.
Last but not least his beautiful caregivers from Bayshore. Britany, Jessica, Aairka, Angela (office) and Judy your love and caring brought a smile to his face and your devotion made him stronger.
Summer you kept him laughing and were amazing with him. You made such a difference in our lives.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Community Foundation (tbcf.org) in Jays name. His fund supports bursaries for the Boys and Girls Club youth.
As per Jays wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration will occur in the summer.
“May you rest in peace and may your memory be a blessing.”
