Joseph Nick Ryczko, 83, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away with his two daughters guiding him to his forever home. Together they created a lifetime of memories.

Joseph lost his battle with cancer on September 11, 2024. His Family, on behalf of Joseph, would like to express their deepest gratitude for the care provided by Dr. Storkson and Dr. Al-Katari. Dr. Storkson always had time for him, often calling to check in with Joseph after medical tests, referrals, or to clarify prognosis. Joseph felt these calls were not unlike the old fashioned 'House Calls'. Dr. Al-Katari advocated treatment, vigorously, on Joseph's behalf. Thank you for all your efforts. Kate, a PSW, who was kind and gentle when Joseph needed the most compassion. Please know this didn't go unnoticed. We're grateful.

Joseph began his life on March 29, 1941, in Dryden, Ontario. Predeceased by his Mother, Mary Abolins (Maslack), Stepfather, Edgar Abolins and Father Nick Ryczko; his Wife, Marianne (Burzuik); Brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Ryczko; Son-in-law Jeffrey Porter and Great Grandson, Matthew Kersey.

Joseph is survived by Son, David Ryczko, Daughter, Susan Porter and Daughter Lisa Larche (Tom Bevilacqua); Grandchildren, Alex (Melissa), Zachary (Marissa), Kailin (Micah); Great-grandchildren Jacob, Kay, Madisyn, Parker, Luke, and Chloe as well as a baby boy due in November 2024 and a baby girl due in February 2025. He is also survived by his Brother, Ted Ryczko (Cathy) and Loving Sister, Wanda Mitchell (Jim). Joseph will be missed by numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

Joseph was a hard working, dedicated employee with a strong work ethic. He started his working life early, on the Family Farm. He transitioned to independence, as a young man, to Reed Paper Mill in Dryden.

Joseph moved his family to Thunder Bay in 1977. Although the Mill changed ownership, over the years, Joseph remained working with the same group of guys for many years. This group of men became a family. They looked out for each other, essentially sharing their lives together. They still, to this day, meet, weekly, for coffee and share a special friendship. Joseph valued each one of you.

Joseph had a tremendous love of music. He grew up playing the violin, however, he could also play several instruments. Joseph looked forward to his weekly guitar jam and practiced regularly. Joseph's love of music didn't stop there. For all who knew him, you'd also know how much he loved to sing, and that he was a huge fan of Elvis Presley (as you may have noticed in the photo above).

Joseph put his family first. He enhanced the lives of his children with frequent visits to their beloved camp on Wabigoon Lake. He supported activities by encouraging them to never give up and to be proud of reaching their goals. Joseph continued his legacy with his Grandchildren. He supported, encouraged and often drove them to their hockey practices, skating and dance classes, never declining an opportunity to spend time with them.

We also couldn't possibly exclude his little princess, Abby. His little fur baby was his sidekick. Everywhere Joseph was, Abby wasn't far behind. Thank you to Nancy and Neil, who opened up their home and heart to her. We are forever grateful.

Many people have captured his heart along his journey. Although we can't possibly name everyone, we do want to thank a few. Chantelle: you always had a story to share and a few extra minutes for Joseph. He lit right up, with a huge smile, the minute we walked into the bank and he saw you. Thank you for being so amazing (we know sometimes you were so busy and you didn't really have a minute!!). Nathan and Denis: You both created a special relationship that Joseph valued. He loved both of you very much. From flower girl to beautiful friend, Karen Atamanchuk, you could spend hours talking to Joseph. He loved you so much. We need to mention the Good Shepherd Family as well as say thank you to Pastor Bryan. Thank you to Darlene for always including Joseph in activities she knew he'd enjoy, visiting and having tea, and enjoying each other's friendship.

Funeral Services in Celebration of Joseph's Life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11:00am in Christ Lutheran Church (47 Walkover Street, Thunder Bay). Luncheon to follow. In memory of Joseph's passion, please feel free to wear your favourite band T-shirt.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Joseph has left the building
