It is with great sadness that the family of Maria De Deus DaCosta, age 85, announce her sudden passing on Thursday, March 6, 2025. She passed away peacefully with all her family by her side.
Maria De Deus DaCosta was born June 24, 1939 in São Miguel Azores, to Evaristo and Gloria Alves. Maria married her loving husband Jose Rodrigues DaCosta, and immigrated to Thunder Bay from São Miguel Azores Portugal. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Maria dedicated her life to her children and her greatest joy was her family and spending time with her kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, gardening and cooking Portuguese meals for her family and as well as shopping with the Maria’s.
Maria is survived by her children: Joe (Tammy), Carlos (Kathy), John (Vikki), and Fernando; grandchildren: Miguel (Laura), Celyne (Zach), Jamie, Dante, Joey, Franki, Chantel (Lucas), Anthony, and Julia; great-grandchildren: Aija, Asher, Ari, and Jaxton and she will be greatly missed by her brother Manuel Alves as well as many other family and friends not only here but in Portugal.
Maria was predeceased by her father Evaristo Alves, mother Gloria Alves, husband Jose DaCosta, sister Maria (Gloria) De Sousa, sister-in-law Maria (Estrela) Alves.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Maria DaCosta will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Berchmans Francis of St. Andrew’s R.C. Church presiding. The interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
