It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Margaret Gotro on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Marilyn was born on November 2, 1937 in Sudbury, Ontario. Known for her positivity, sense of humour, intelligence, and wisdom, she touched the lives of many.
Marilyn dedicated her life to a career in nursing, earning her Master's Degree and serving as the Director of Staff Education at St. Joseph's General Hospital in Thunder Bay until her retirement in 1996. Before this, she dedicated many years of her life as a Catholic Nun in Sudbury, Ontario, where she began her nursing education and her journey of service to others.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Fred Gotro; her brothers Gerry and Lloyd; her sister-in-law Shirley; and her nephew Darren Gotro. Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her nieces Karen and Lynn; her sister-in-law Jackie; her nephews Mark and Brian, and their families; as well as her many lifelong friends.
In her later years, Marilyn lived at Chartwell - Thunder Bay, where she enjoyed building friendships and contributing her compassionate presence. Known for her ability to make others feel at ease, Marilyn was a trusted confidante who offered wise and thoughtful advice.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Sargent and Son Funeral Home (21 North Court Street). In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
