Mary Louise Zaporzan, left us peacefully on February 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on September 2, 1936, in Port Arthur, Ontario. Mary's life was a testament to the power of kindness, a positive attitude and the ability to laugh at the ups and downs of life.

Mary is survived by her sister Jean Swanson of Thunder Bay; son Lawrence Zaporzan (Susan) of Ottawa; grandsons Alexander Zaporzan of Ottawa and Justin Zaporzan of Singapore; brothers-in-law Ralph Zaporzan and Ted Zaporzan (Amanda) of Thunder Bay; sister-in-law Eileen Bottos (Angelo) of Thunder Bay; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was the beloved daughter of James Bregg and Wilhelmina (Jackson) Bregg, who predeceased her. She grew up in Kaministiquia, Port Arthur and Stanley Park alongside her siblings, Jean Swanson and the late Betty Dolph. Mary's life was graced with the love of her late husband, Lawrence Eylmer Zaporzan, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together, they raised their son, Lawrence James Zaporzan, and welcomed with open arms their daughter-in-law, Susan Zaporzan.

Her legacy continued to flourish through her cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Justin Zaporzan, who will remember her for her unconditional love, the joy she brought into their lives, and the adventures shared on family vacations around the world. Mary maintained a close relationship with her brothers and sisters-in-law as well as her many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Mary was a proud alumna of the Fort William Vocational Institute. Her most fulfilling job was her over 25 years with the Canadian Red Cross, where she made significant contributions through her hard work and compassionate spirit.

Mary's interests and activities were a reflection of her love for her community and the arts. Her voice was a staple in the St. Anne's Church choir, where she sang under the direction of her niece, Janice Swanson. Her passion for music was matched by her love of attending local fairs, events, and theater productions with her beloved sister Jean. Mary's commitment to preserving local history was evident through her volunteer work at the Paipoonge Museum.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Mary was always a ready fishing partner in her younger years and enjoyed driving out into the bush in the fall. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on the deck of her country home where she shared coffee with neighbours and reveled in the beauty of the changing seasons and the wildlife.

Mary will be deeply missed, but the legacy of Mary Louise Zaporzan will live on forever in the memories we hold dear.

A Celebration of Life will be held mid to end June in Thunder Bay, the exact time and location to be determined.
