After 91 years, some recent health obstacles & 15 months without the love of his life we are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Roy Smith on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
Roy was born Dec 7, 1933, in Fort William, Ontario to Orvin & Alice Smith (deceased). Siblings to Nella, Boutelle, Albert, Patsy, Wallace, Eddie, Nelson, Richard & the lone surviving sibling Gail.
In 1956 Roy met the love of his life, Eileen. They were married just short of 66 years at her passing in 2023.
Roy retired from Keifer terminals in 1998 but over the years worked many labour jobs in the camps, driving heavy equipment, loading ships & boxcars in shipping season. His first job away from home at 15 years old was shovelling gravel with horse & wagon.
He enjoyed camping at Arrow Lake Narrows, Crib, Spite of Malice, fishing, reading & made a delicious carrot cake! He was very handy & independent until recent.
In his earlier years he was an avid baseball player, hockey player and curler. He also played broomball and was a 10 pin bowler.
Roy is survived by his sister Gail. His children Kathy (Dave), Charlene (Rob), Angela (Bob) & D’Arcy. Grandchildren Gary (Jen), Melanie (Emanuele), Lisa (Gary), RJ, Richard (Nicole), Neil & Tyler. Great Grandchildren Chance, Abbigale, Ethan, Jacob, Nathan, Cameron, Justin, Savannah & Brianna.
Predeceased by his true love Eileen (Karila) in 2023. His Granddaughter Samantha & Great Grandson Andrew.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 11:00am-2:00pm at Harbourview Funeral Center 499 Cumberland St N, Thunder Bay, On.
