Ruth Elizabeth Marantz (nee McManaman) June 6, 1962 - November 25, 2024
It is with great sadness, after a short illness, Ruth has come to rest. Predeceased by her father Bernard (Sam) McManaman, sister Nancy McManaman, nephew Conor McManaman, mother Elizabeth (Betty) McManaman, mother-in-law Brenda Marantz and sister-in-law Andrea Marantz.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ruth graduated from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1989. In the same year she met her soon-to-be husband, Allan. She worked at Health Sciences Centre for a year before moving to Thunder Bay in 1990. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital while attending Lakehead University to complete an Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While attending school, she had her two daughters, Lauren and later Tamara. Her son, Neil followed a couple years later.
Ruth loved to travel with her friends from all over the world and has been on many adventures. Some of her favourite trips included Galapagos Islands and South Africa. These trips were some of her most cherished memories. Her adventures took a turn in 2018 while biking in the Croatian mountainside, where she suffered a traumatic brain injury. While this ended her nursing career after 28 years at St. Joe’s, Ruth was able to make the most of her early retirement. Fitness classes at Movati and her three children, her dog and three cats, all kept her active.
Survived by husband of 32 years Allan, her children Lauren (Kyle), Tamara (Robin), and Neil (Sophie), her dog Halo and cats King, Sheswie and Lucy as well as her brother Allan (Diane) McManaman, sister Judy (Paul) Stewart and brother-in-laws Josh Marantz, Ari (Ilana) Marantz and David Marantz along with her aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Nurse Practitioner Meredith Orr for the excellent care, to Nurses Jocelyn and Amanda at TBRHSC and to Doctors McLean, Faghih, Haggarty, Bezanson, Bhanabhai, Ward, Migay, Moorhouse and Sellick as well as Paramed nurses Connor, Steven, Julie, Andrea, Tyler and Andrew for all of your care and compassion. Thanks as well to all the other healthcare professionals that aided in Ruth’s care.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy. 1, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to the TBRHSC Regional Cancer Care, Canada Mental Health Association, Thunder Bay & District Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
