It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alice Zapior announce her peaceful passing at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on February 25, 2025, at the age of 90.
Alice was born January 31, 1935, near Hafford, SK., in the district of Albertown, to Nicholas and Anna Lanski. Alice fondly spoke of her childhood, the hard work and dedication not only to farming but also to the operation of her family’s confectionary store.
It was 1948, at the age of 13, when Alice’s parents and family moved to Thunder Bay. Alice attended Port Arthur Technical & Commercial High School (Hillcrest High School). She worked as Paymaster for the City of Thunder Bay and later with St. Joseph’s Hospital, in the same line of work.
Alice met the love of her life, Stanley Zapior, and they were married on August 20, 1960. This was the beginning of their love for spontaneous travel, honeymooning in Yellowstone National Park and later enjoying travel to numerous places including Mexico, Hawaii, California, Florida and the Bahamas.
Alice was a kind and loving person, always having a warm and welcoming smile for everyone. She spent many hours working in her large garden, making preserves and baking pies, especially apple or rhubarb. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Alice was strong in her faith, a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Women’s League for 57 years. She was also a life member of the Polish Alliance of Canada, Branch 19.
Alice will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Stanley, her husband of 64 years and their daughter Alison Stein (Trevor). Babcia will always be lovingly remembered by her cherished granddaughters Astrid and Dagmar. Alice will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Jim Lanski, sisters in-law Helen Gaul and Jeanne Zapior, brother in-law Edward Zapior (Christine), and all of her nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Anna Lanski, parents in-law Wincenty (William) and Leokadja Zapior, sister Helen Lillian Laprade and husband Thomas, sister in-law Sylvia Lanski, brother in-law Walter Gaul and niece Lori Ann Postumus.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, especially the dedicated and caring doctors and nurses of 2A. We would also like to thank the staff of Sargent and Son Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance.
A private visitation and service was held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, officiated by Father Ciaran Donnelly. Interment has taken place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations in Alice’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Church, in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
