November 23, 1977 – March 3, 2025
Charla Mae Charles, age 47 years, unexpectedly passed away with her family by her side at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Charla was born in Geraldton, Ontario on November 23, 1977.
Charla will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her partner Harvey Shaganash; her children Ethan (Emmerae) and Tayler, Her grandchildren, Kyana, Kaisyn, and Kyiara. Her step-children Ami (John), Kristi (Tanner), Marlee and Hailey (Keith). Her grandchildren Kalen, Rya, Ty, Zoey, Nathaniel, Hunter, Mia, Keegan, Olivia and Atticus.
Charla’s mother, Maryann Charles; her brothers Ken Sr (Bibianne), Arnold (Bailey), and sister Shauna will forever hold her in their hearts. Her niece Shelby (Justin) Madisyn, nephew Kenny Jr., Trevor and Valerie, and nephew Keith will remember her laughter, and birthday celebrations that were like circus events.
Charla is predeceased by her father Terrance, her grandparents Raymond and Edna Charles, grandparents Roy and Genevieve Echum. As well as her uncles Clarence, Raymond Jr. and auntie Glenna. Uncle Leslie O’Nabigon, cousins Darren and Matthew O’Nabigon, Cameron Echum, Heather Iserhoff and Gavin Echum.
Charla leaves behind many cousins, aunties and uncles and other friends she was close to, her work family at the Ginoogaming Head Start where she worked for 25 years or more. She was devoted to her work with the children and families she served.
Charla was always a very creative person who could turn a night with her friends, grandchildren and children into an event that included building cabins, making forts, an evening of making crafts or baking and maybe some food fights. Charla had a sense of humour like no one else and displayed it openly. She was very humble and kind and was also a very private person who didn’t always share her worries. She was not a person to seek out praise from others, she just did what she thought would make others happy.
Her mother Maryann Charles and family would like to express great gratitude to the doctors/nurses who took care of her at the Geraldton Hospital and at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday March 13, 2025 at 1:00pm at the St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longlac, officiated by Father Hugo Tremblay. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Charla’s memory to the ‘Make a Wish Charity for Children’ or any charity that helps children in need.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore Street West, Thunder Bay.
