ESKO JOHANNES KONU UURAINEN November 13, 1942 – January 5, 2024 Esko was born in Kalajoki, Finland and immigrated to Canada at nine years old. The family lived near Kaministiquia.

After attending Hillcrest High School, he become a surveyor. When Esko Jr. was born, he went to work at Co-op Dairy, then Palm Dairies as a foreman. On July 4th, 1964, he married Diane Paul. Three in their family married three in the Paul family.

All cousins could pass as sisters or brothers. The family always attended Knox United Church (Pruden Street). He was a volunteer caretaker at Knox United for 15 years until closing, then Westminster United.

Esko played golf in the summer, did woodworking, enjoyed Sunday family dinners, and built a sauna, playhouse, and put up basketball nets. Quad rides were a must! In later years, he did renovations with family and friends.

Lovingly missed by wife Diane, daughter Laura Pichette (Mike), son Jason (Brent), predeceased by son Esko Jr. (Larry) and brother Heikki. Survived by sister Aila, Hannu (Margie), grandchildren Jennifer Pichette (Matt), Kristin Melanson (Justin), Dylan Uurainen, great-grandsons Hayden and Forrest, sisters-in-law Donna Uurainen, Judy Pidgeon, Marilyn Eaves (Bill), brother-in-law Russell Paul (Doreen). Also nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Our sincere thanks goes out to TBRHSC and St. Joseph’s 4N for all their caring and kindness. Cremation has taken place.

A service will be held at Westminster United Church, 650 River St., on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
