Obituary Candle
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gwendolyn Merle Jessiman, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born in Wapella, Saskatchewan, Gwen moved to Fort William, Ontario, in 1947, where she would leave an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Gwen's life was a testament to love and devotion. She was the loving wife of Gary, with whom she shared nearly 63 years of marriage, extending their high school romance into a lifetime of shared memories. Her parents, Margaret and Harold Metheral, instilled in her the values of family and community that she carried throughout her life.

Gwen's passion for education led her to a career in teaching, which she embraced until the birth of her first child. After that her family became her world, and she poured her love into her children Kevin (Brenda), Darcy (Sandy), Darren, and Loreen Warner (Bob). Her joy multiplied with each grandchild—Courtney Brand (Scott), Bryan (Jasmine), Mitchell (Brittany), Derek (Sarah), Riley, and Dylan—and great-grandchildren Corbin, Benny, Annabelle, Wynn, Charlotte, Sawyer, Macy, Max, and Ben. Apart from family she also enjoyed curling, weaving, knitting, glass work, time at the lake and winters away.

Gwen's sister Joyce Russell (Tony), her sister-in-law Cheryl Gleeson (Lorne), and brother-in-law Tom (Patricia) were integral parts of her life, as were the nieces and nephews she adored. Her large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins held a special place in her heart.

Remembered for her unwavering love, Gwen ensured every family member knew their unique importance to her. Her friendships were numerous and deep, and the family extends heartfelt gratitude for the support and companionship they provided.

The world is indeed a better place for having had Gwen in it. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. We extend our deepest thanks to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional HSC, particularly the Emergency and Ward 2C teams, for their exceptional care and compassion during her final days.

Gwen’s spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. An event celebrating her life will be announced later where we will honour her memory and all that she meant to us. Arrangements are being made by Northwest Funeral Alternative. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation will be appreciated.
