It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence “Larry” Michael Dunwoody on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, following a brief illness. Larry was 74 years old.
Born on August 2, 1950, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Larry grew up with a deep sense of family and a passion for learning, attending the University of Toronto’s Engineering Program before embarking on a successful career in business. It was in Toronto, while in school, that Larry met the love of his life, Cora Spadoni, on a university bus, a chance encounter that would change both of their lives forever.
Larry recently retired from his role as General Manager for National Car Rental and Spadoni Leasing Limited, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were matched only by his love for his family.
Larry was predeceased by his brother Ken and his sister Margaret. He leaves behind his beloved siblings: Daniel, Greg, Cathy, Anne Marie, George and Richard Dunwoody.
Larry and his wife Cora shared many adventures over their 54 years of marriage, travelling to Ireland and spending time in Aruba, their favourite destination.
Above all, Larry was a devoted father and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his children Michele (Dave), Julie-Ann (Mickael), Danielle (Stephen), and Michael (Jacqueline) and his cherished grandchildren Megan, Kayla, Jackson, Emma, Isabella, Anna and Lily.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 11th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in recognition of the exceptional care Larry received during his final days. Arrangements entrusted to the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S.
