Miss Lily Lai Quon Chung, age 76 years, passed away peacefully at the Yee Hong Peter K Kwok Hospice in Scarborough, Ontario on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. She showed true bravery and dignity throughout her second battle with cancer.
Lily was born in China on November 10, 1948 and she came to Canada in 1956. Lily graduated from Lakehead University in the Nursing program and specialized as a Maternity Nurse. She started her lifelong career, first at Port Arthur General in Thunder Bay, then moving to Toronto, where she worked in Toronto York and Toronto Sick Kids Hospitals. Her passion for travelling peaked when she had the opportunity to work at San Mateo Hospital in California. In 1997, Lily's career was put on a brief hold as she braved her first battle with cancer. It was during this time that she opened her heart, and found her acceptance and peace in God. This brought Lily great comfort, and gave her the strength to fight her illness.
Lily returned to Scarborough Grace Hospital where she finished the last several years of her career. Here, she created some of the strongest bonds and friendship with respected fellow colleagues; Wendy, Christine, and Lucilla just to name a few.
Lily was instrumental in assisting relatives immigrating to Thunder Bay to build new lives, where they successfully operated the Fort William Curling Club Restaurant for many years.
She was a big fan of Elvis Presley, collecting numerous records and memorabilia over the years. Elvis' music, especially the hymns he sang, touched her and provided a calmness and hope in her final days.
Lily is survived by her beloved brother, Lloyd (Jean) Chung; nieces Jayal (Carly) and Michelle (Peter), as well as her special great-nephew Skylar.
We would like to say a special thank you to Lily's second family - her friends, Nancy Wong and her brothers; Marie Lousie Pedri and Jaro Kotalik; Wendy, Dante and Mathew Ng; Christine Chung; Lucilla and Joe Chan and Cindy Ferreira along with numerous friends that shared luncheons on the last Thursday of each month.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chee Pan and Toy Lin (nee Chan) Chung.
There will be no service, but the family requests you help remember and carry on Lily’s legacy by sharing stories of adventures while feasting on favourite meals among good company.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Lily to your local food bank would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James.
Our Lily
God, Kinship, Friendship, Love and Food
All together were Lily’s passion.
The Love of God gave her passion,
Kinship gave her desire to always help,
Friendship gave her purpose,
Love was her light,
Food was the heart she shared generously.
She has achieved all she lived for,
And leaves this physical world without regrets.
Not forgotten, giving us Hope.
She will forever remain with us.
My loving sister who always held my hand from our Homeland to Home.
