We are sad to say goodbye but happy that she is free from the constraints of a worn body and the confusion of her mind ... she passed away peacefully Dec 19, 2024.
Mom was born in 1929 in Paspébiac QC. After her father's death, she left school at an early age to help support her large family and worked in a fish factory throughout her teens and followed that with work in a laundromat in Chandler throughout her 20s. She met widower Eugene Duguay in her hometown in fall of 1957, fell in love and in June 1958 they were married in Marathon, ON. Together they raised his daughter Lise and their son Danny, born in 1960. It was a happy & busy life - she was very involved with her church, with the Catholic Wo1nen's League, with coaching youth bowling. She was such a talented woman - sewing, knitting, crocheting, furniture upholstering, a friend and counsellor to so many, and let's not forget a great cook. Four years after dad's passing, she was fortunate to meet another good man, Raymond Fournier, they got married in 1993. Her years with Ray were spent in Blind River - together they shared their love of gardening and travel. Even after his death in 2001, she continued to live in Blind River where she had made many friends. We finally convinced mom to move to Thunder Bay in Oct 2011 so she could be near her children. Three months· later, she suffered a stroke resulting in dementia – no longer able to live on her own, she moved into assisted-living at The Walford; as the dementia progressed and needing more care, she moved into Southbridge Roseview in 2018 where she resided until her death.
Left to mourn her are her children - son Daniel Duguay (Cathy), step-daughter Lise Haché, step-sons Jean-Paul & Gilles (Sylvie) Duguay; grandchildren Melanie (Edward) Brohm, Evan (Molly) Duguay, Kayla (Chris) Hagstrom, Emilie (Yohans) Roy and Vincent (Alexandra) Duguay; and great-grandkids Myer, Laine, Gene, Elliotte, twins Antony & Océane, Nathan and William. Also survived by one of 8 siblings - Jean-Made (Rose) Castilloux.
Predeceased by first husband Eugene Duguay in 1989 and second husband Raymond Fournier in 2001, father and mother Simon and Elizabeth Castilloux and siblings Leo, Jeanne, Maurice, Lilas, Simone, Rosaire and Vahnont and son-in- law Jean-Claude Haché.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Southbridge Roseview for the care & kindness shown during her final years.
A private celebration of life will occur at a later date. Should you wish, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.
