With both sadness and love, we announce the passing of our beloved Richard Wayne Polhill on November 10th, 2024. At the age of 85, known for his incredible warmth, sharp wit and perhaps most memorably his stubborn determination, he was a true force of nature, leaving an incredible mark on all who knew him.
Born in Geraldton Ontario, Rick was as strong-willed as they came. He worked at Lakehead Diesel for 35 plus years, retired and then continued working part time for 15 years at National Car Rental. Ricks lifelong love of sports lead him to play hockey, baseball as well as to serve as a respected referee and umpire.
Rick married the love of his life Ruth on February 16th, 1963. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, loyalty and partnership that spanned 61 years.
Rick is survived by his wife Ruth, three sons Chris (Anne-Marie), Steve, Jason (Emilia), grandchildren Kaelee, Nathan, Ajay, Brandon (Morgan), Julia (Rhys), Asia-Solange, Sydney and four great grandsons and one great granddaughter Meredith, brothers Glenn (Brenda) and Greg (Jayne), sister-in-law Faye and Patti and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 2-4pm at the West Arthur Community Centre – 1914 Arthur St. W.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Place, The Underground Gym or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
