It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Mrs. Valerie Christina Chapman (nee Charlie), age 83 years.
She passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, June 29, 2023 with family by her side.
Valerie was born in Mission Bay (Fort William First Nation), Ontario on March 23, 1940 to Angelique (nee Bannon) and Dominique “Henry” Charlie. She met Francis “Frank” Chapman and they were married for 54 years until his passing on May 6, 2023.
Valerie owned and operated Chapmans Gas Bar for over 30 years, where she had met a lot of the community and made many lifelong friendships.
Valerie is survived by her children Cher, Christian (Jean), and Jason; grandchildren Chloe and Jade; and brothers Dennis Charles and John Charlie. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank; her parents and siblings Nathalie, Dorothy, Lyle, Harvey and Frank “Kiddo”.
A Traditional Visitation and Service for Valerie will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 beginning at 11:00am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fort William First Nation, where Valerie will be laid to rest with Frank.
