With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Valerie Ferguson on February 5th, 2025, in Roseview Manor.

Valerie was born in 1930 in Port Arthur to Alan and Alice Thomas. She attended St. Joseph’s school, after which she completed her education at Hillcrest High School. Val was a hard worker and held various positions throughout her career, which included working in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s, working under the manager at Bank of Nova Scotia, and finally, working under the manager at Eatons.

Val led a quiet but full life. She preferred to stay home with her family. Val loved to go fishing with her beloved husband Jack. They also spent many relaxing weekends at their camp on Poshkokogan Lake, as well as fishing with lifetime friends Ted and Rose Mill.

Val is survived by daughter Susan Ferguson (Eric Janhunen), brother Peter (Joan) Thomas (whom she and Jack lovingly raised from an early age and considered their son), sister Carol McLeod, grandchildren Paul (Liisa) Asmunt, Colin Morancy (Lana Viheriasalo), Morgan (Ryan) Minkus, Nadine Herbert (Lee Edwards), Jenna (Jamie) Petrynka, special nephews John (Gina) Thomas and Ken Thomas, as well as many beloved great-grandchildren.

Val is predeceased by husband John (Jack) Ferguson, brother John Thomas, daughters Judy Vance and Barbara Morancy, granddaughter Jennifer Asmunt, and parents Allan and Alice Thomas.

The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Roseview for the excellent care and compassion given to our beloved mother and nanny. Cremation has taken place and a private gathering will take place at a later date.
