It is with profound sadness that the family of Tyrone Armstrong announce his passing on January 3, 2023. He was the first born to Anne and Vincent Armstrong on April 17,1946.
Tyrone worked at Great Lakes Paper, in all of its iterations, holding various positions as paper maker, paper inspector and finally as a safety officer. In his youth he was a cadet in the Navy League of Canada and eventually joined the Naval Reserves. He loved being at sea and all the adventures that afforded him. He had a passion for being on the water and all things related to the Navy. He wouldn’t miss touring a visiting ship that came to town. He met one of his most cherished friends, Christian, during his time in the Reserves -a friendship that remained strong over the last 40 years.
Tyrone loved to cross country ski at Kamview where he had a membership for many years. He was also an avid golfer enjoying many rounds of golf at Emerald Greens with his friends Brian, Bobby, Morris and Roy. When not golfing in the summer he loved road trips to see air shows, visit theme parks, museums, art galleries always bringing one or multiples of “the kids” along.
His greatest love was his family. He was so proud of his daughter, and his grandchildren. We pity those that had to listen to him sharing stories of their accomplishments and successes. The bragging was not only reserved for them but also for the accomplishments of his niece and nephew as well as his great nieces and nephews. He celebrated each of their milestones by sharing the news to anyone that would listen, often several times over, because he was so thrilled for them. Whether it was finishing school, new jobs, competing at the national level, travelling, getting engaged, married and having babies. He was so proud of them all.
Tyrone is survived by his daughter Kerri (Shane) Bernardi, grandchildren Sydney and Samuel, his sister Lynn and brother in-law Ralph Feser, nephew Sean (Sheri), their children Brendan and Ashlynn, nephew in-law Pierre Tennier and his children Hayley (Kevin) their children Adeline and Lochlan, Jordan (Eve) and Nolan. Predeceased by his parents Vincent and Anne, and beloved niece Sandy.
A small service for Tyrone’s family and close friends will be held on January 12, 2024 at 10:00 am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
