It is with great sadness we the family of Albert (BUD) James Wing age 87 years of Thunder Bay, announce his passing on Jan. 21/24 peacefully in his sleep. Born on Feb. 17/1936 in Fort William ON, he was raised and educated in Rosslyn. Bud was an automotive and heavy duty mechanic employed firstly at Brock and Brown Service then a number of other garages such as Zellers, Kam Motors and lastly MTO until his retirement. Throughout his career and hobbies he made many life long friends and great memories. These friendships included working in some Northern communities such as Winisk and Bearskin Lake to name a couple but one of his fondest memories was in Fort Severn where he helped build a road in which the community members named "Bud Lane". What an honor this was. Bud, a loving husband, brother, father, uncle, nephew, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather will always be remembered for never missing occasions involving dinners or sporting events especially when family was involved. Some of his greatest passions were hockey, racing and fishing. He started playing hockey at the outdoor rink in Rosslyn Village and spoke about using catalogues as goalie pads. Hockey was almost a full time job some years as he started watching his son Gary which carried onto the grandchildren and great grandchildren. If he wasn’t coaching or refereeing he was a faithful spectator travelling to many other provinces and to the U.S. He actually watched his Leafs lose again the night before he passed. Bud drove race car, worked in the pits, flagged and then eventually was a dedicated spectator. He was pit boss for his son Gary who raced go-carts and then modified class stock car. Dad and the family spent many weekends together at the track. Recently he spent his summers with Michele Jennifer and family at Muskrat Lake in his motorhome, enjoying time with his entire camp family, to which we would like to thank for making his summers of fishing, riding on the pontoon boat and campfires so memorable. The summer also included many fishing excursions with T.J and boys. (he couldn’t say enough about how it was the best summers of his life and he finally caught fish).
Bud is survived by children Michele (Ben), Gary (Sandra) grandchildren Jennifer (Richard), T.J (Cheyenne), Melissa, Kaitlyn (Andrew), step-grandchildren Tanis, Linda (Jacob), great grandchildren Landen, Ben Jr., Tauren, Beau, Bobby, Barrett, Teagen (Tiger), Rosa, Tazzlen, Tylen and Case. Great Great grandson Ciprian (who told him many stories in the last few weeks). Many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in-law and life long friends that meant so much to him.
Bud is predeceased by wife Bernice, who I’m sure was waiting with arms wide open, 1 infant son Darrell, parents Les and Laura (Veley) Wing and siblings John, Lorne, Hazel, and Joyce.
A celebration of life will be held on March 4, 2024 at Rosslyn Village Community Centre, 3405 Rosslyn Rd from 3-7 p.m.
