It is with great sorrow the family would like to announce the passing of Anthony Manduca. "Tony" was born on McLaughlin St. in the East End of Fort William, March 2nd, 1930. He was known to his pals as "Punjab" and was always proud to be a "coal docker". As a young boy, Tony sold newspapers and shined shoes. While working as an usher at the Lake Theatre he met his future wife Sylvia.
In 1945 he started working at Canada-Car, where he continued working on and off until his retirement in 1994. In between he was employed at Olgivies Flour Mill, Great Lakes Paper Mill, and bartended at the Kakabeka and Murillo hotels. He was also a farrier, shoeing horses in the local area. In 1970 he bought a modest milk farm with 60 head of cattle. Always an animal lover, Tony had over the years goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, rabbits, pheasants- but horses were his passion, owning many over the years that he rode in many parades and carnivals, he sulky raced as well around local tracks. After his day job was done and dinner ate, no TV for Tony. He'd be in the barn tending to his animals and working in his almost half acre garden. It wasn't all work though, Tony loved a good time. Travels to county fairs, riding his horses, playing cards and throwing dice.
On March 31, 1951, he married Sylvia Sulyma and were together for the next 63 years until her passing. Tony met his special lady Carol Sabourin and they spent his last years together dancing, playing bingo, enjoying life and having fun. He is survived by his son Peter Manduca, Carol Sabourin, siblings Sonny Manduca (Louise), Helen Delben, Rose Thompson, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Pasquale and Helen, sisters Mary, Carmela, and Lilly, and brothers Jimmy and Peter.
Funeral Services for Tony will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in the Blake Funeral Chapel at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
