Anthony “Tony” D. Stehmann, age 85 years passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Born December 28, 1937, in Den Bosch, The Netherlands to Julia Maria Theodora Stehmann (Poierrie) who was born in Hertogenbosch' and Antonius Arnoldus Stehmann born in Zaltbommel. They moved to Amsterdam and as a young boy and he delivered the Catholic Newspaper in the famous Red-Light District. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 18 to be with his brother John Stehmann to learn English. He never left and has three beautiful children: Wendy, Sharon and Robert. Later in his life, he remarried Maureen Comuzzi and became a Stepdad to William.
Tony was a gentle, kind man. He was calm in the storm and had a famous line.... "It will all come out in the wash." His career was full starting as a young man at the age of 18 at SS Kresges in downtown Toronto, then to Sudbury. In 1972, he opened Kmart in Thunder Bay. Mr. Stehmann, he was too many. He owned Bay Meats, Liquidation Centre and Pilot Concessions, Vending Company. Tony could be found loading a vending machine or two!! Most notably in the Canada Games Complex in his shirt and tie. Never believed in jeans but eventually he gave in.
Tony loved Bridge and enjoyed his Monday night Bridge games with the boys. He golfed and was President of the Fort William Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a proud Rotarian.
Tony loved people and having coffee, lunch or a drink with his dear friends Edward Meijer (Sheila), Patrick Gamble and Russ Leroux (Tula). Sitting on the patio in the sun with a CC and water was one of his pleasures. Cocktail hour was when the day was done, and he enjoyed rehashing the day.
He was predeceased by his sister Julie, mother Julia Maria Theodora, father Antonius Arnoldus, and infant brother Anthony, brother in law Han Prins and his mother-in-law Doris Comuzzi.
He has left behind his wife Maureen, his daughters Wendy (Peter) and Sharon (Walter), his son Robert (Lil), stepson William, sister Thea, brother John (Grace) brother Robert (Fieneke). Tony had 9 Grandchildren: Kyla (Steve), Jeremy (Robin), Ryan (Shay), Alia (Justin), Michael (Caitlin) Thea (Joe), Paul (Christine), Graham (Megan), and Alexander. He had 14 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that are abroad.
He loved all his family without Condition, he was a man of integrity with a strong faith and belief. He will be missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with Msgr. Rev. P.M. Stilla, V.G. officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Those wishing to attend the service virtually may do so at the Sargent and Son Facebook page.
