Mr. Daniel Harold Joseph Madore, age 77 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully with family by his side on Thursday August 24, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care. Born on August 12, 1946, in Pembroke, Ontario, he was raised in Rapides des Joachims, “Swisha”, Quebec, with his 10 brothers and sisters and attended McKenzie High School in Deep River, Ontario. He met the love of his life, Carol Ann Meilleur, in Swisha, where they married in 1971, enjoying 52 years of marriage together. They moved to Pembroke where they had their first child, Brent, and moved again to Thunder Bay where they had their second son, Jordie. He was employed as a truck driver, retiring in 2001 from Bulk Systems after a work place injury. Growing up, Daniel played hockey with his friends and family in Swisha and was known for his love of the game and his love of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Daniel enjoyed time with family, playing the guitar and playing cribbage with anyone who wanted a game, in particular his grandchildren and nieces. Daniel was always ready to play with his grandchildren or strum some tunes on his guitar or be the grill-master at the family BBQs, he always had a hat on his head and a smile on his face. Daniel is remembered as a kind, gentle, and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed
Daniel is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (52 years marriage), two sons, Brent (Sandra) and Jordie (Karyn), grandchildren, Evan, Jacob, Hailey & Tyler. Also survived by siblings: Patricia, Donna, Karen, Lloyd (Kathy), Corinne (Brett), Barry (Lada), Randy (Moira), Debbie (Bart), Curtis (Mary Louise) and Blaine (Wendy), in-laws: Jacqueline, Glen (Vicky), Darcy (Mary), also aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, cousins and his best friend, his brother Barry and his faithful buddy Mitzy.
Daniel was predeceased by: his parents, Marion & Vincent Madore, his mother & father-in-law, Theresa & Tut Meilleur, in-laws, Bob Swarts, Mel Stewart, Joe Mask, Ben Hollup, Billy Mask, Janice Madore, Tinus de Haan, Solange Meilleur, Lindsay Meilleur.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be on Sunday August 27, 2023 at the Slovak Legion Solarium Room from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. No service will be held and cremation has taken place.
