Mr. Daniel Pozihun, aged 91 years, passed away peacefully on October 8th, 2023.

Dan was born on June 7, 1932 in Port Arthur, Ontario to Peter and Margaret Pozihun - a family well known for their love of Ukrainian dancing. From a young age, Dan and his sisters performed in and around the Port Arthur area. This was the beginning of Dan's lifelong love of music and dance - he was always ready for a good polka!

Dan met the love of his life, Margaret (Marg) in high school. They were married in 1956 and together raised three sons.

Dan always knew he wanted to be a teacher, and worked for the Lakehead Board of Education for 34 years, briefly as a teacher but for most of his career as a principal. He relished his time with his students and could often be found coaching a variety of sports or playing a game of pick up boot hockey.

Dan was a vibrant and active individual who loved camping, fishing, cycling, fitness activities and jogging. He also enjoyed and excelled at many competitive sports. In his younger years it was football, fastball and basketball "with the old gang". Throughout life he loved golfing, playing slow pitch for Mr Transmission and curling. The Port Arthur Curling Club was like a second home to both Dan and Marg where they spent many happy hours curling and socializing with friends. A highlight of Dan’s curling career was in 1995 when he competed in the Canadian Senior Curling Championship with Bill Tetley, Bo Britten and Jerry Whittaker. No matter what the sport, you could always hear his laughter and count on Dan to give his best.

Dan’s greatest love was spending time with friends and family. Whether it was Sunday dinners with Marg and the kids or entertaining friends out at Shebandowan and later Oliver Lake, Dan cherished these gatherings. Retirement gave him more opportunities to enjoy these times with his friends and family - especially his grandchildren, to whom he was fondly known as Gramps.

Dan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marg, sons Pat (Todd), Mike (Kathy) and Tim (Tanya), grandchildren Lindsay, Danielle, Jordan, Jessica, Mckenna and Vance, brother-in-law Stan Kushnier and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Peter Pozihun, infant son Daniel and sisters Anna Nazarec, Nellie Crowe and Eleanor Kushnier.

The family would like to thank the staff of Roseview Manor, Celeste wing, for their care and compassion over the last couple of years, with special thanks to Dr. Coccimiglio, Tanner and Ken.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at the Port Arthur Curling Club from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A toast to Dan will take place at 4:00pm. If you are unable to attend please raise a glass at 4:00pm in memory of Dan.

In Dan’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.
