A truly beautiful person has left us far to soon. We are devastated by the untimely passing of Darlene Giba on June 27, 2023, at the age of 67.
Darlene (Dar), was born in Thunder Bay (Fort William), Ontario on August 11, 1955. Her life was a success story, having gone from young mom to a successful career woman with a beautiful family. She graduated from Selkirk High School and later proudly achieved her Human Resources Management Certificate. She launched a lifetime of employment in human resources, beginning at McKellar General Hospital. In 1987 she began 32 years of service at Confederation College, where she was valued for her knowledge, leadership and guidance of others. She was a person of great integrity and was recognized for her service in 2019 as the recipient of the Board of Governors Administrative Award of Excellence.
Dar loved travelling with her partner, Gary. Together they enjoyed exploring and learning about new places, dipping into the waters at great beaches in Florida, Maui and taking in local attractions. She was a fan of road trips and was happy to be on the road, singing along to great old music with Gary at her side. She also loved visits with her family in Calgary.
Dar relished time spent with the people in her life, always looking to the simple but meaningful connections be it a lunch or coffee date, or a movie night with popcorn. It is no surprise that she directed time in her retirement to the service of others as an enthusiastic member of the Fort City Kinettes.
Dar was a warm, compassionate and devoted person who will be deeply missed for her good sense of humour and easy laughter. She will be deeply missed by her loving partner of 33 years Gary Adomko, her adoring son Kelly Boyce (Nancy), grandchildren Zachary and Taryn, her siblings Debra, David, and Dan (Barb), stepdaughters Jennifer and Lorraine Adomko grandchildren Austin, Aiden, Audrey, Reese and Aubree.
She was predeceased by her parents (Helen) Ruth and Walter Giba. A private celebration of life will be held by the family in August.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
