George passed away peacefully Nov 9, 2023 at the TBRHSC surrounded by his loving family. George was born Sept 19, 1934 in Liverpool, England and served in the Black Watch Battalion, serving most of that time in Africa. In 1957 he immigrated to Canada with his parents and settled in Winnipeg working for the CNR.
On a visit to Thunder Bay, he met the love of his life, Faye Provost. They married June 29, 1963 , celebrating their 60th anniversary this year, and raised a beautiful family.
George worked at Bombardier (now Alstom) as an inspector, retiring in 1999 after 35 years. Providing for his family, with an abundance of love, was always his main goal in life. He took on the job (on his own) of rebuilding our little 4 room home into a home big enough to raise our growing family. George was so very proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their achievements. With a cold Blue in his hand, he enthusiastically cheered on his favorite Formula 1 driver, the Liverpool soccer team, the Toronto Blue Jays and his favorite curling team.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Faye and children Trudy (Bob) Guitard, Brian Skean and Becky Skean. Also loved by his grandchildren Jake Guitard (Hunter), Jesse (Marissa) Guitard (Luke & Kiera), Jared (Kayla) Guitard, and Kalan Skean, brother Eric, sisters-in-law Gloria Merchant and Donna (Gordie) Petrie. Many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in England also survive.
Predeceased by his infant son Stephen, parents Mary (Skean) and John Houghton, sister-in-law Hilda, parents-in-law Mary and Bert Provost, brothers-in-law Grant Merchant and Dennis Provost.
Celebration of George's life will be held at Sargent and Son Reception Centre on Monday, November 27th from 2-4pm, with words of tribute at 3pm. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation.
