Jean Jonasson

The family of Jean Jonasson announce her peaceful passing on December 31, 2024 with her daughter by her side. Jean was born May 7. 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents Michael and Florence Kapusta.  She grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, along with her younger sister Marge.  She was a strong independent woman who always put her family first.

On July 26, 1958, Jean married Leon Jonasson, from Gimli,Man.  They were married 49 years when Leon passed away in 2007. Jean and Leon had 3 children Lori, Michael and Trevor.  Together they would camp and fish, enjoying summers together.

Jean also had 8 grandchildren who she loved and supported in many ways.  Grandma was always there to take care of everyone.

Jean was an avid knitter and created the most beautiful sweaters and blankets.  Every Christmas, we all looked forward to receiving those sweaters, which we will cherish today.

Jean leaves to mourn, her sister Marge, children Lori, Michael and Trevor.  Grandchildren: Kristi (Lee) Britton, Jenni (Matt) Jurcic, Kelsi (Dominic) Britton, Hayli Britton, Jordan Jonasson, Lindsay Jonasson.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter Jessica Jonasson in 2022.

Jean is also survived by her great grandchildren, Brady, Calvin, Jacy, Kylie, Leif, Jadyn and Jessica's children Tobias and Tyrion.

Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and B.C.

A celebration of life will be held for the family at a later date. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
