Mr. John (Jack) Dalton Mayes, age 84 years, resident of Thunder Bay, ON, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Born on July 3, 1940, he attended Isabella Street Public School and Fort William Collegiate.
He worked with his father at Mayes Excavating before a long career with the City of Thunder Bay water works.
In July 1997 Jack retired from the Environment Division of the City of Thunder Bay after almost 26 years of service.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, and going for rides to explore the outdoors.
Jack was very knowledgeable, hardworking, practical and resourceful.
He was especially proud to watch Liam and Julia in their many sporting events and follow all their achievements throughout the years.
Jack is survived by his daughters Susan (Cam), Denise, and Janet (Joe), his grandchildren Liam and Julia, his brother Bob (Jo), sister Helen (George), sisters-in-law Maureen and Gen, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Marilyn, son-in-law Mike, parents Julia and Dalton Mayes, brothers Jim and Rick, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Marion and Owen Williams.
The family would like to thank Dad’s medical team for their support and care over many years, as well as the TBRHSC staff on 2A for their recent compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
