With heavy hearts we announce as a family the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Loriann Posthumus. Lori was born on April 15th, 1960 to Lillian and Thomas Laprade and sadly on October 4th 2023, Lori passed too early with family at her side after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Lori was a kind hearted, patient wife and mother who had many passions, but her number one love was her family. While her children were young Lori was a stay at home mom and her mother passed along all the skills necessary to thrive in that role. Lori was always a caring, loving, and supportive mother to her sons; she was proud of everything they did and made sure everyone knew it. She loved to cook for her loved ones and her guests and always made people feel welcome in her home. In 1994, her and her husband Steve purchased Lac Des Mille Lac Lodge. Steve, Lori and family owned and operated the resort together working side by side for 23 years. Lori and Steve poured their heart’s and souls into everything they did out there. Over the years many guests became good family friends and Lori always looked forward to seeing them and having them over for dinner to catch up.
Lori enjoyed traveling, ice fishing, gardening and all sorts of outdoor activities, until the “dang mosquitoes” came out. Whatever she was doing, it always involved listening to her favorite music. She knew every band and song title, and could pick out a tune in no time. Her record collection turned to a tape collection and then to CD’s years later but one thing stayed the same, it always took up a third of her room. Lori loved to make a difference in someone’s life or just brighten their day. That caring heart guided her to join Friendship class through the First Christian Reform Church, where she no doubt changed the lives and helped many folks struggling with mental and physical disabilities.
After retiring from the lodge and selling in 2017, Steve and Lori purchased their motorhome and would often head back to her happy place on the lake. She could finally enjoy the fruits of her labour and sit back with a cold beverage, watching the sunset over a beautiful bonfire, with her tunes playing in the background.
Lori will be celebrated and greatly missed by her husband Stephan Posthumus. Her children Steven Posthumus (Revelyn), Adam (Tina) Posthumus, Ryan (Alyssa) Posthumus, and grandchildren Hunter, Oakland, Audrey and Arlo Posthumus. She also leaves behind her siblings Cory and Lana Laprade. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. Lori is predeceased by her Parents Lillian and Thomas Laprade and father and mother-in-law Steffen and Adriana Posthumus, as well as her first son Matthew Posthumus.
A visitation to which all are welcome will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. Words of tribute will begin at 2:00 p.m. for anyone who would like to speak. Interment will take place at Stanley Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
