With deep sadness the family announces the passing of Robert “Grant” Sutherland on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Grant was the eldest son of the late Glen and Marion Sutherland, born in woods Harbour, Nova Scotia, grew up, received his schooling, married and started his family in Clyde River, Nova Scotia.

He later found work in Caramat, Ontario, with American Can (Marathon Paper).

When that company was sold he moved his family to Thunder Bay in 1986 to work for Great West Timber and eventually retired from Avenor in 1997 - a long and happy career in the forest industry.

He and Edith enjoyed their retirement years, which the family started off with a bang by gifting them a trip to Australia where they visited with Edith’s brother Jim and his family, as well as many stops throughout Australia and New Zealand- the trip of a lifetime!

He enjoyed curling with the Ezyduzit Curling Club.

He is survived by his wife Edith, sons Allison (Betsy), Peter (Laura), Joe (Evelyn), Nick (Nancy), Malcolm (Heather), John (Rita), Richard (Ellen) and Ian (Tracy) and their families.

Also surviving are sisters Barbara Bower and Sharon Christie and brothers Dale (Judy), Wayne and Robert, brothers-in-law Jim (Rowena), Tom (Carol) and Rob (Dorothy).

Predeceased by his son Brian, daughters Meredith Dee, Lynn Joyce and Ruth Acker, brothers Gordon, Donald, Deward and Douglas, brothers-in-law Alan Bower and Allan Christie, former wife Leola MacInnis and parents-in-law Jim and Elsie Burns.

Sincere thanks to the staff on 5N Marigold for the wonderful care and consideration shown to both Grant and Edith during Grant’s stay, what wonderful people.

Thank you also to ParaMed for all their assistance while Grant was at home and to Northwest Funeral Alternative for their professional advice and support.

Our thanks also to Stan Zuke of Campbell River for always staying in touch with Grant which he appreciated.

No Services will be held; interment will take place at the Sutherland family plot in Clyde River, Nova Scotia.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is welcome.
